The Faculty of Educational Sciences
The Faculty of Educational Sciences provides a comprehensive teacher training programme and offers postgraduate programmes with opportunities for research.
Teacher training is available for all levels of the Swedish school and pre-school system. Future educators have considerable freedom of choice in subject specialisation and age group. Teacher training draws on a set of courses in general education. Teacher trainees come into contact with local schools from the very start.
Courses and programmes are generally taught in Swedish, although there are a number of courses offered in English which are open to international students.
Johanna Nilsson was one of 11 student teachers who went to Kenya and arranged a conference on the theme Ways out of poverty.
- It was a great success. Around a hundred people took part, from private individuals who had set up their own companies to representatives of various organisations, Johanna says.
Eva Reimers, professor in pedagogic practice, and Dr Susanne Kreitz-Sandberg, senior lecturer in education, were recently invited to Ochanomizu University in Japan to a kick-off symposium for an internationalisation project. "This was a good opportunity to expand the links with Japanese universities”, they say. "Teacher education students at LiU are interested in exchange studies in Japan and Asia. There is also an interest for teacher exchange and research collaboration."
