Application and tuition fees for undergraduate and master's level courses

Application and tuition fees will be introduced for students with citizenship in countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, beginning with application to the autumn term 2011. If you have citizenship in a European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) country, or Switzerland, you are not required to pay application or tuition fees.

To find out more about application and tuition fees, and whether or not you are required to pay them, please consult the website universityadmissions.se.

OBSERVE! The application fee of 900 SEK (Swedish kronor) must be received 15 April at the latest in order for your application to be processed.

Please note that when applying for courses you have to use the online application form found at Linköping University's website. This form must be submitted to Linköping University directly and the application fee must be paid to Linköping University directly, not through universityadmissions.se (see How to pay below). Payments of application fee done through universityadmissions.se are not valid when applying for a single subject course using Linköping University online application form.

Tuition fee – terms of payment

1. Deadline for payment

The tuition fee should be payable ahead of studies. The fee will be equivalent to the number of credits the student is admitted to during the semester.
Tuition fee payments should be made in advance and for the autumn of 2012 the payment is due on (will be announced soon).
Once the tuition fee for the first semester is paid, you can
- apply for your residence permit through the Swedish Migration Board
- apply for accommodation

It is strongly recommended that you pay your tuition fee as soon as you have received the Letter of Admission from Linköping University. The residence permit application process will not begin at the Swedish Migration Board until your tuition has been paid. As this can take some time, you should pay as soon as possible.

2. How to pay

Once you have received the Letter of Admission from Linköping University you will receive an e-mail with your invoice and information on how to pay the tuition fee. Please note that payment must always be made in advance.
There will be two ways to pay your tuition fee:

  • Online payment using a credit card (VISA, MasterCard) - you find this PAYMENT SERVICE on the right
  • Payment by bank transfer

The primary method of payment will be online with a credit/debit card. This is the best method of payment as it is quick and secure. If you are unable to pay the fee online, you can pay by transferring money from your bank. This could take some time and it is of great importance that you follow these steps.

1. Inform your bank that deadline for payment is June 1st and Linköping University must have received your payment by deadline.

2. It is of great importance that the transferred amount should include any bank fee – Linköping university should receive the amount that is stated in your invoice.

3. Payment transaction MUST include your first name, your surname and your application number (registration number) – otherwise we cannot match your payment with your application.

-IBAN: SE58 8000 0890 1192 4339 6570

-Account no: 8901-1, 924339657-0

-BIC/SWIFT: SWEDSESS

-When paying tuition fee from a Swedish bank you can use
“bankgiro 5050-0016”.

-The name of our bank is Swedbank.
Address:
Swedbank
105 34 Stockholm

Step 2 and 3 also apply for the payment of the application fee.

3. Include your reference number

It is extremely important that you have your bank include your reference number at the top of the submitted application form. Without this number, we will not be able to match the money that you have transmitted to your application.

4. What is included in the tuition fee?

Studies and study related issues such as study administration, study/career counseling, student health care, library access, computer labs, assistance in finding accommodation etc. are included in the tuition fee.
Full-time study load is 30 credits per semester. Students are welcome to apply for 30 credits (maximum 45 credits) if they intend to study full time. Students intending to study part time are welcome to apply for fewer credits. Observe that the Migration Board requires full-time studies if residence permit needs to be issued.

5. What is not included in the tuition fee?

Course literature, housing costs, living expenses, etc. are not included in the tuition fee. You will need approximately 7300 SEK a month for such expenses.

6. Students who do not pay on time

Students who have not paid their tuition fees on time will not be able to enroll at LiU.

7. Leave of absence

Paying students are subject to the general rules at LiU regarding leave of absence. However, paying students must submit an application for leave of absence no later than 14 days prior to payment deadline in order to avoid paying tuition fees for that semester. Tuition fees will not be refunded to students who commence a leave of absence after semester start, but who have not applied for leave of absence prior to payment deadline.

In connection with a leave of absence, it is not possible to obtain a refund of tuition fees for a semester that has already commenced (e.g. if performance at examinations does not live up to expectations) except in case of serious illness and death (self, partner or member of immediate family).

8. Withdrawal from studies

Paying students are subject to the general rules at LiU regarding withdrawal from studies. However, paying students wishing to withdraw from their studies must submit an application in writing no later than 14 days prior to semester start in order to avoid paying tuition fees for that semester.

9. Refunds

Students who have paid tuition fees, but who for various reasons (e.g. did not qualify for a residence permit) are not enrolled at LiU, can receive a full refund of their tuition fees excl. bank charges and administrative costs. A written request for refund must be submitted to the Legal Office of LiU before November 1st.

Students who have commenced the first semester

Students who drop out of their studies before November 1st at LiU have the right to a refund of 50 per cent of their tuition fees, excl. bank charges, regardless of the reason for dropping out. Only students who submit a written withdrawal request to the Legal Office of LiU no later than November 1st of their first semester at LiU may receive a refund of 50 per cent of their tuition fees, excl. bank charges.

Other cases

In case of serious illness or other extra ordinary circumstances, it will be possible to apply for a refund of the tuition fees for the semester already commenced. The application (including attached documentation) for a refund of tuition fees must be submitted in writing to the Legal Office of LiU no later than three weeks after the request to withdraw from studies has been submitted.

Written applications for refunds can also be considered in special cases (i.e. in cases where the applicant can prove that Linköping Univeristy has not lived up to its obligations). The application must be submitted in writing to the Legal Office of Linköping University.

Applications for refund of tuition fees that are submitted more than one year after payment will not be considered.
