Prior learning

What is prior learning?

A person who does not fulfil general and/or specific entry requirements but believes they have acquired the necessary prior knowledge in another manner can have their prior learning assessed. The aim is to assess whether the applicant's overall competence affords them the opportunity to successfully complete the course or study programme applied for. The applicant may for example cite work experience, time spent in other countries and employee training. For more information on, among other things, eligibility, how to apply, how to appeal go to General Information.

How do I apply for an assessment of prior learning?

1. Make an application for a course or study programme at: https://www.universityadmissions.se

2. Fill in the form "Instruction and form for assessment of prior learning concerning specific entry requirements at Linköping University". Link to the form can be found omn the page for Specific entry requirements.

3. Provide as much evidence as possible for your information, using certificates, grades and/or assessments from other people who know you.

4. Send one copy to Antagningen, Linköpings universitet, 581 83, Linköping.
Mark the envelope with "reell kompetens" This also applies to online applications.

How are specific entry requirements assessed?

Depending on the course or study programme in question, assessment of specific entry requirements is performed by different personnel, in most cases, the subject or course/programme coordinator is charged with the task. In order to find out more about the process of evaluation of prior learning in relation to specific entry requirements, and how to apply go to Specific entry requirements.

Keep in mind:

If you already meet the specific entry requirements for the course or study programme in question (i.e., the formal requirements), your prior learning will not be assessed.
If your application is received after the deadline, the University cannot guarantee that it will be processed during the admissions period.
Information on the results of the assessment of qualifications will be provided in the admission decision or in the form of an advance decision if the assessment does not take place within the admissions period.

Note that eligibility via prior learning does not give you priority for the course or study programme to which you have applied.
