Entry Requirements for Courses
There are different entry requirements for master's level courses and bachelor's level courses. There are both general requirements for university studies an specific requirements for each course. All Swedish and international students must fulfill the general admission requirements and all specific admission requirements in order to be admitted to Linköping University.
Entry Requirements for Master's Level Courses
General Entry Requirements
- a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen) from an internationally recognised university.
- proof of skills in English. This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognised test, see below for more information.
- the specific requirements stated for each course.
Specific Entry Requirements
Applicants also have to meet the specific requirements stated for each course. Please check the course descriptions carefully for detailed information.
The specific requirements will be assessed as not fulfilled if:
- the average grade is in the lower third of the grading scale used in the country where the degree was awarded, i e grades have to be above average/pass level (equivalent to the Swedish grade “G”).
- the degree does not qualify for admission to equivalent master’s programmes in the country where the degree was awarded.
Entry Requirements for Bachelor's Level Courses
General Entry Requirements
- completion of an upper secondary education conferring eligibility to university studies in the same country and corresponding to the same level in Sweden.
- skills in English, both written and oral, corresponding to the level of English required in Swedish upper secondary education.
- skills in Swedish, both written and oral, corresponding to the level of Swedish required to achieve a pass grade in Swedish upper secondary education. Students applying for courses/programmes taught in English are exempted from the requirement of skills in Swedish.
Specific Entry Requirements
Specific admission requirements vary from one course to another. For more information on specific requirements, like for example the language requirements, please see information on the webpage of the course you are interested in.
Language Requirements for Undergraduate and Masters Level Studies in English
To be eligible for undergraduate studies in English, students must have documented skills in English, both written and oral, corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (English B/ English 6). For students who have not studied in Swedish upper secondary education, skills in English are normally attested by means of an international language test, such as:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 575 on the paper-based test, or minimumscore of 90 on the internet-based test (use code 0101 when applying for undergraduate level courses)
- International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) minimum score of 6,5, no band lower than 5,5
- Cambridge ESOL, Certificate of Proficiency in English/CPE or Certificate in Advanced English/CAE
- Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) minimum score of 90 points
- Pearson Test of English English B / English 6: Minimum score of 62 (writing 61)
Language Requirements for Undergraduate Studies in Swedish
To be eligible for undergraduate studies conducted in Swedish, students must have documented knowledge of Swedish, both written and oral, corresponding to the level of Swedish required in Swedish upper secondary education (Swedish B/Swedish 2B/Swedish 3). For students who have not studied in Swedish upper secondary education, skills in Swedish are normally documented by the nationwide Swedish test TISUS, Test in Swedish for University Studies.
Students with Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic or Faeroese as their mother tongue do not have to verify knowledge of Swedish if their knowledge of their mother tongue is documented by their final upper secondary school certificate.
Finnish students who have studied Swedish in upper secondary education are considered to have the required knowledge of Swedish.
