Intertextuality, 7,5 hp
The course introduces theories of intertextuality as first conceptualized in the 1960s and examines various manifestations of intertextuality in contemporary fiction. After completion of the course the student should be able to:
- Identify and describe different manifestations of intertextuality in literature, discuss their function, and relate their use to a wider historical and social context as well as to tradition and the canon.
- Critically analyse literary texts using terminology and perspectives borrowed from theories of intertextuality and traditional poetics.

Särskilda förkunskapskrav: Applicants must, by the closing date for application, hold a bachelor's degree/kandidatexamen (equivalent for example a professional degree) of at least 180 ECTS credits, including a 15 ECTS credit degree paper or equivalent. In-depth study of at least 90 ECTS credits/60 credit points (3 semesters of full-time study) in one of the following subjects: Comparative Literature, General Linguistics, English, French, German, Spanish, or Swedish and approximately two semesters of full time study in another subject relevant to the programme is required, including a paper corresponding to approximately 10 weeks of study 15 ECTS credits.
Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6; i.e. English as native language or an internationally recognized test, e.g. TOEFL (minimum scores: Paper based 575 + TWE-score 4.5, and internet based 90), IELTS, academic (minimum score: Overall band 6.5 and no band under 5.5), or equivalent.
