Analytical Tools, 12 credits

The course gives an introduction to selected key tools and methods, used in the programme. Methods such as, writing as a method of inquiry, interviewing and dialoguing as a method of inquiry, theatre as a method of inquiry, use of online tools as a method of inquiry, textual analysis, visual analysis, ethnographic methods, action research methods as well as quantitative methods are introduced. Relations between qualitative and quantitative methods are also addressed. Moreover, the students carry out a pilot study on a topic within the field of study. Via the pilot study, the students are trained in project design, selection of methods and critical reflection on analytical strategies.

Specific admission requirements: Bachelor’s degree in the humanities and/or social sciences with at least 30 credits in Gender Studies or equivalent qualifications.
Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6; i.e. English as native language or an internationally recognized test, e.g. TOEFL (minimum scores: Paper based 575 + TWE-score 4.5, and internet based 90), IELTS, academic (minimum score: Overall band 6.5 and no band under 5.5), or equivalent.
