Apply for Swedish Language Courses

Learning some Swedish will make your stay in Sweden more enjoyable. Exchange students are welcome to apply for one of the following beginner’s courses in Swedish. Fill in your choice on the application form for exchange studies.

Intensive Beginner's Course in Swedish for Exchange Students

Credits: 7.5

This three-week intensive course is intended for exchange students who wish to gain an introduction to the Swedish language. The aim of the course is to give a short introduction to Swedish everyday life and the Swedish language, its grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
The course is also given as a part-time evening course during the semester. See "Beginner's Course in Swedish for Exchange Students, level A1" below.

Study period: One course in August 2013
Rate of Study: Intensive course, full-time
Campus: Linköping
Application deadline: 15 April. Use the regular application form for exchange studies.

Beginner's Course in Swedish for Exchange Students, level A1

Credits: 7.5

This course is intended for exchange students with no previous knowledge of Swedish and has the same content as the course above. The aim of the course is to give students a basic knowledge of Swedish with an emphasis on oral skills. The course includes pronunciation exercises, oral training, basic Swedish grammar and short, writing exercises.

Study period: Autumn semester 2013 and spring semester 2014

Beginner's Course in Swedish for Exchange-Students, level A2

Credits: 7.5

This course is intended for exchange students with knowledge of Swedish equivalent to the Intensive Beginner’s Course in Swedish or Beginner’s course in Swedish, level A1. Students will improve their Swedish language proficiency and broaden their knowledge of Swedish society. They will also acquire a deeper knowledge of important basic grammar as well as an elementary working vocabulary.

Study period: Autumn semester 2013 and spring semester 2014
Rate of Study: Part-time evening course

Beginner's Course in Swedish for Exchange-Students, level B1:1

Credits: 7.5

This course is intended for exchange students with knowledge of Swedish equivalent to the Intensive Beginner’s Course in Swedish or Beginner’s course in Swedish, level A2. Students will be able to discuss matters of everyday life in mainly correct Swedish and give an account of their knowledge of Swedish society and culture based on the course literature.

Study period: Autumn semester 2013 and spring semester 2014

Beginner's Course in Swedish for Exchange-Students, level B1:2

Credits: 7.5

This course is intended for exchange students with knowledge of Swedish equivalent to the Intensive Beginner’s Course in Swedish or Beginner’s course in Swedish, level B1:1. Students will be able to discuss matters of everyday life in mainly correct Swedish and give an account of their knowledge of Swedish society and culture based on the course literature.

Study period: Autumn semester 2013 and spring semester 2014

Erasmus Intensive Language Course (EILC) - basic course

Credits: 7.5

Application is only open for Erasmus students as there is extra funding for students from the EU. Students will acquire basic knowledge of Swedish and basic language skills with the emphasis on oral Swedish, as well as becoming acquainted with Swedish society. They will also acquire knowledge about important basic grammar as well as a working vocabulary appropriate to the beginner’s level.

Study period: August 2013 and January 2013
Rate of Study: Intensive course, full-time.
Campus: Linköping

Erasmus Intensive Language Course (EILC) - intermediate course

Credits: 7.5

Application is only open for Erasmus students as there is extra funding for students from the EU. Students with previous knowledge of Swedish are welcome to apply for the new EILC intermediate course. The course comprises tasks and exercises with the emphasis on being able to ask questions, introduce, sustain and finish off a conversation. The following elements are to be covered: prosody, aural comprehension and oral exercises in the form of presentations, dialogues, discussions, role-play etc. Intensive training of reading skills based on short texts connected with Swedish society and cultural life is also included in the course. The course also deals with fundamental Swedish grammar, morphology and syntax. Students develop their language proficiency by means of written assignments and exercises.

Rate of Study: Intensive course, full-time.
Campus: Linköping
