Occupational Therapy

Exchange students in the Occupational Therapy Programme can design their own study plan. The plan will usually combine clinical placement and/or research projects.

Orientation week

Every semester at the Faculty of Health Sciences starts with a compulsory Orientation Week. You need to be present for the duration. This programme introduces international students to the Swedish health care system, and provides information about practice in clinics and health care centres and working with Swedish patients.
The Orientation Week is designed to help exchange students gain as much as possible from their studies at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Orientation Weeks 2013/2014 will be held

  • 16-23 August for the autumn semester (Friday to Friday)
  • 10-17 January for the spring semester (Friday to Friday)

Clinical modules

Exchange students can practice in the community, hospitals, vocational rehabilitation, elderly services or day centres for people with learning disabilities.

The following clinical modules are usually offered:

  • Care of the Elderly
  • Orthopaedic Care (Hospital Training Ward)
  • Psychosocial Care and Rehabilitation
  • Somatic Care and Rehabilitation

Students acquire 1.5 credits for each completed week of study.

Theoretical modules in English

Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Rehabilitation - An International Course, 7.5 credits

Given once a year, in autumn. Full-time study for five weeks.

Quality Improvement and Learning in Clinical Practice, 4.5 credits

The course is given twice a year the first two weeks of the semester (after the Orientation week). Full-time study.

Research projects

In some cases, students can work on individual research projects during part or all of the semester. The length of those projects will vary depending on student needs and supervisor availability. Each completed week of research work gives 1.5 credits.
Research in connection with the programme is focused on pain problems, the elderly, psychosocial problems and rehabilitation for vocational and daily life.
