Erasmus Intensive Language Course (EILC)

Linköping University offers two EILC courses: a basic course (for beginners) and a intermediate course (for students with previous knowledge of Swedish).

EILC - basic course

The EILC at Linköping University is intended for Erasmus students with no previous knowledge of Swedish. It is a four-week course aiming to give students a basic knowledge of Swedish with an emphasis on oral skills. The course has four components:

  • pronunciation exercises
  • oral training
  • basic Swedish grammar
  • short writing exercises

Eligible students: EILC is open to Socrates/Erasmus students studying at Linköping University or any other Swedish University during the academic year 2013/2014.

Scholarship: Most European countries offer supplementary grants for students participating in the EILC. Check with the Erasmus coordinator or the International Office at your home university for more information about scholarships and how to apply for them.

Study period (EILC August): The arrival day at Linköping University is August 1. Classes start on August 2 and end on August 23. The exam will take place on August 30 (prel).

Study period (EILC January): The arrival day at Linköping University is January 7. Classes start on January 8 and end on January 28. The exam will take place on January 31 (prel).

Application deadline: End of May for the EILC offered in August. End of October for the EILC offered in January.

Rate of study: Full-time

Level: Beginner’s level

Location: The course takes place on Campus Valla at Linköping University.

EILC - intermediate course

Students with previous knowledge of Swedish are welcome to apply for the new EILC intermediate course. The course comprises tasks and exercises with the emphasis on being able to ask questions, introduce, sustain and finish off a conversation. The following elements are to be covered: prosody, aural comprehension and oral exercises in the form of presentations, dialogues, discussions, role-play etc. Intensive training of reading skills based on short texts connected with Swedish society and cultural life is also included in the course. The course also deals with fundamental Swedish grammar, morphology and syntax. Students develop their language proficiency by means of written assignments and exercises.

Fill in the application form below and send it by e-mail to the Erasmus coordinator at your home university, who will be responsible for forwarding your application to international@ffk.liu.se at Linköping University. Please do not send the application form directly to Linköping Univeristy; the application form should be sent by your home university to Linköping University.
