Short summary of HRM/HRD at Linköping University
Two divisions at Linköping University work with education and research in the area of HRM/HRD.
The division of Business Administration has a research group working on HRM in projects and project-intense firms. The research programme focuses on a specific part of the modern firm, namely project activities, where relations between organizational structure and co-workers situations are studied. In this perspective, the interplay between the firms Human Resource Management (HRM) and the project activities are highlighted.
The division of Pedagogy in Work and Education (PiAU) is part of a research environment - work and working life - that receives funding for research and graduate education from the faculty of arts and sciences.
Research has a focus on pedagogical processes within education and working life (companies, public sector and professional and industrial organizations). Lately, research within PiAU has developed in close cooperation with - and as part of - the multi-disciplinary research on education/learning, health and innovations, carried out at HELIX VINN Excellence Centre.
Historically, research and education at PiAU have developed in relation to the following research areas: adult education, vocational education and training (VET) and human resource management and development (HRM/HRD).
The major part of research at PiAU is also carried out within or in the intersection between these three fields. More specifically, the following main areas can be distinguished:
- Interplay between education and working life
- Learning and competence support in working life
- Change processes within and between organizations
- Leadership/leadership development and employeeship
- Organization and different aspects of phenomena related to for instance participation, gender/equality, identity, power relations, (multi-)professional organizing
Research and education within the division takes place within e.g. industrial concerns, health care services, education and other service activities.
Research is mostly carried out in externally funded projects. Presently we receive external funding from FAS (The Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research) and VINNOVA (The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems), but also directly from companies, municipalities and other organizations.
Education
HRM/HRD education and research in Linköping are structured according to the Bologna model, with a three year Bachelors program and a two year Master’s program. The Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes are primarily in Swedish, but some courses are now offered in English for both Swedish and international students.
The Bachelor’s Programme in Human resource management and work sciences focuses on the interaction between several different subjects, mainly - Behavioural Analysis and the Social Sciences, Economics and Jurisprudence. Tuition in Occupational Studies, Management and the Development of Groups and Organizations are just some examples of current research areas which influence course content. In order to carry out research and project work which is closely tied to the management of change and development work in companies and organizations, students maintain close contact with selected project companies during the whole period of study.
Behavioral Sciences (Education, Psychology and Sociology) and Business Administration are key majors of the Master’s Programme in Human Resource Management & Development. The programme looks into HRM/HRD both from research and practical perspectives.
