Apply for accommodation

The university has a queuing system for rooms. Exchange students in Linköping apply for accommodation when they apply for courses, i.e. before 15 April for the autumn semester and before 15 October for the spring semester. The number of rooms is limited.

A security deposit of SEK 2,800 is required in advance, before you arrive in Sweden. This will be repaid into your bank account in your home country after you leave, on the condition that your room has passed inspection. Repayment can take up to eight weeks after your tenancy agreement has expired.

Applications for accommodation are included with the faculty application forms for exchange studies.

There is always a lack of rooms in Linköping during the autumn semester. So we also recommend you to sign up with Studentbostäder at www.studentbostader.se as soon as you have applied for studies here. This website gives you one queue point per day. You can start using these points after you have received the Admission letter from Linköping University.

A student room is typically a 20 square metre bedroom with an en suite bathroom. There are often several rooms next to each other in a corridor which connects to a shared kitchen and living room. Many of these rooms are in a student housing area often a short bike ride away from the University. The room rent starts at approximately 2,800 SEK/month.

The room is fully furnished, but pillows, blankets and sheets are not included. Once you have moved in it is possible to apply for a phone line and Internet connection.

In the shared kitchen you will have your own area of the fridge and freezer. Kitchen utensils are not included, but it might sometimes be possible to borrow from other students in the corridor.

It is also possible to rent a parking space if you have a car. You can arrange one once you have arrived in Sweden.

Please note that the University cannot offer accommodation with a lower rent than already stated. If you need somewhere with a lower rent or require a two room apartment or your own kitchen, you will need to find your own accommodation.
