Anna Fyrenius bloggar om livet som läkare inom internmedicin och lungmedicin (se länk nedan).
Anna var med i den Forumkull som började 1996. Hon försvarade en licavhandling 1999 (första examen inom Forum!)
Three-dimensional Intracardiac Flow Studied with Time Resolved Phase Contrast MRI : Blood flow in the human left atrium and ventricle
Hon slutade därefter i Forum, bytte forskningsinritkning, och försvarade 2007 en doktorsavhandling med titeln

Paula has received a very nice position as a coordinator of the Finnish National Graduate School of Musculoskeletal Disorders and Biomaterials from February 2010. She will during this spring work mainly here in Linköping, but will from June 2010 move to Åbo/Turku in Finland. Her new position is actually very similar to mine except that her programme is national and includes many more researchers and PhD-students!

will be given in the spring semester 2010. The course will be held for non-chemists on a level suitable for PhD students not majoring chemistry before. About 13-15 lectures will be given approx. once a week.
The course will start the 28 th of January at 15.15 -17 in room Bikupan at Chemistry in the B-House. It is planned to be scheduled weekly Thursdays between 15-17.
We will follow the book Fundamentals og Organic Chemistry 6 ed McMurry/Simanek, which will be available from the bookshop in Kårallen. As the book title tells the course will give fundamentals in organic chemistry, which can and may be of importance in many fields of eg physics. Examination: Either written exam or home problems throughout the course.
For those of you who wants to attend the course, please give Stefan Svensson, sts@ifm.liu.se, a mail in response January 6, together with a notice if I should order the book to the bookshop for you.

From January 1, 2010, Charlotte Immerstrand will start working 30% helping me with the stimulating job with Forum Scientium! One of the things Charlotte will work with isw the contacts with you. I look very much forward to start working with Charlotte! (During the other part she will work with biosecurity within LiU.)
Sofia moves on to a new job in Dublin. She leaves the position at Molecular and Cellular Therapeutics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. The new job is at ICON "a global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries. We specialise in the strategic development, management and analysis of programs that support Clinical Development - from compound selection to Phase I-IV clinical studies".
SSF have made an evaluation of the outcome of the efforts they made to stimulate doctoral programmes during their first years. They have had rather big troubles to define questions and analyse answers, but some of the results are:
- The brutto time to exam was shorter for SSF-PhDs compared to the control group.
- More of the SSF-PhDs work within industry
- More of the SSF-PhDs say that there education was highly relevant
- Especially women SSF-PhDs regarded to be part of a SSF-programme higher
You can read the report (in Swedish) at
Very near to the all time high of 18 PhD-exams 2001. Altogether there will at the end of this year exist 80 Forum Scientium PhDs. As the new year starts the number of PhD-students will have diminished to 59, but on the other hand we will have 10 transformers!

We welcome you to attend Forum Forum held the 25th of March between 13.15 and 16 o´clock in lecture hall Linden at Campus US. Forum Forum is arranged by Forum Scientium and will involve presentations by invited speakers. It is a chance to see what other research groups are trying to achieve and to find possible collaborations. Afterwards we will mingle and eat some tasty food.
What is Forum Forum?
Forum Forum is an informal come together event where ideas about future collaboration projects can be born. By talking to Ph.D. students and senior researchers, and by listening to the visions of other research groups, we (Forum Scientium) hope that the attendants will find inspiration and opportunities to start up joint multi-disciplinary research projects.
Scientists within Linköping University will present their research with focus on the visions of their research groups. There will be time for discussions after each presentation.

This course in Statistical Methods in Experimental Science will be given by Prof Anders Grimvall sometime between April 20 till May 30 2008 (exact start and end date will be decided by the participators and the examiner). The course has been given three times before and the participating PhD-students have been very satisfied with it. Focus will be on the participators own problems, their own data will be used during the course. The prerequisites are at least a quarter of a year of Mathematics including at least three weeks of Statistics, but also participators with more knowledge are welcome. The course will be given in English (or Swedish). The course includes lessons, 2-3 hours each, at 6-10 occasions. The number of participators should be 5-15 PhD-students (members of Forum Scientium will have priority if needed).
The deadline for application is 25 February 2008 by e-mail to Stefan Klintström, stekl@ifm.liu.se.Remember that you always have to have your main supervisors allowance before applying for a course.

The Swedish Research Council has announced that Forum Scientium will get funding during five years, in total 12.5 million SEK! This is an acknowledgement of the work that has been done within Forum Scientium, first during the start-up 1996 and then continuously during 11 years. We would not have got this new funding if we had not continued to be a dynamic doctoral programme. Especially all PhD-students contributing with new ideas through the Student Council have been vital to Forums success!Read more: Press release from VR (in Swedish)
