Use of discussion forums

Depending on which forum or billboard you use, your posts are either available to everyone or viewable only by logged-in users.

In LiU's discussion forums, you can discuss most things. Comments are published immediately, without any preliminary check. As a contributor posting a message, you are responsible for its content. As the author of the message, you can therefore be held responsible for this content.

Processing personal data

Some discussions forums can be used without a name or login, but the IP number is automatically registered in our system. The details are saved in order to facilitate tracking in the event of illicit messages. In certain cases, you are able to remain anonymous to other users of the discussion forum.

In accordance with Section 26 of the Personal Data Act (1998:204), you have the right to request information once a year whether or not personal data concerning you is processed by a given authority, regardless if it has been collated via the website or in another manner. If you wish to receive such information, you must submit a written request, signed, to us. In accordance with the Personal Data Act, the request must be in paper form, i.e., you cannot send this via e-mail.

Illicit messages

LiU is responsible for the removal of certain messages, e.g., messages of a criminal nature. This requires the authority to supervise the service.

LiU reserves the right to remove messages and block e-mail addresses that violate our rules or are otherwise not in line with LiU policy.

Your messages in the forum may not contain or pertain to any of the following:

•   threat to persons/businesses or incitement to violence or other criminal activity
•   persecution of ethnic groups or other racist sentiments
•   abuse of or threats to other persons, obscenities or offensive material
•   descriptions of violence, child pornography or other form of pornography
•   material protected by copyright that you have not created yourself or that you do not have the rights to, or
•   any other message that violates applicable legislation or morality.
