The Disciplinary Board

The Department for Examination and Degree Administration handles complaints about disciplinary matters, conducts investigations and presents the issues to the Disciplinary Board.

The Disciplinary Board examines the evidence, decides whether the student has cheated or not, and takes action, such as a warning or suspension from classes and examinations for a maximum of six months. Suspension is typically enforced on the same date as when the decision was made. Depending on the circumstances, the examiner can choose to grade the exam as per usual or wait for the Disciplinary Board’s decision. If the Disciplinary Board finds that cheating has occurred, the examiner can review the decision regarding the grade.

The decision regarding disciplinary action should be communicated to the appropriate department. The details of the decision should include the timing of any eventual suspensions. A student who has been warned or suspended is entitled to request a review by the County Court. The request must be made within three weeks of the initial decision. A suspended student may not participate in teaching, examinations or other activities within the programme’s framework. The University is also obliged to inform the decision to the CSN.

Disciplinary matters

The Higher Education Ordinance governs processing disciplinary cases: Chapter 10. http://www.hsv.se/lawsandregulations/thehighereducationordinance.4.5161b99123700c42b07ffe3981.html#chapter10 Those disciplinary measures which a university may enlist are warnings and suspensions. These measures can be taken when students:

  • by prohibited aids or otherwise attempt to deceive during examinations or when academic work is to be assessed – i.e. cheating.
  • disrupt or obstruct teaching, examinations or other activities within the framework of the university.
  • disrupt activities in the university library or other designated facilities within the university.
  • subject another student or worker at the university for said harassment or sexual harassment referred to in chapter 1. 4 § Discrimination Act (2008:567).

The Disciplinary Board

At each higher education institution there shall be a Disciplinary Board that is tasked to deal with disciplinary matters.

The Disciplinary Board at Linköping University consists of the Vice-Chancellor as Chairperson, a legally qualified lawyer, a teacher’s representative and two student representatives appointed by StuFF and LinTek.

Dates of meetings are set in advance for one semester. The matter will be discussed at the earliest meeting, preferably within a month and normally during school terms.
