Room for reflection

Pause

In our modern society a lot of people feel stressed by a high tempo, high noise levels and demands of constant availability. The need for a break, room to breathe, can sometimes become overwhelming. Everybody needs to get away sometimes, to be left alone with their thoughts.

Some people have the ability to relax and stay balanced wherever they may be. Others find peace through walks in the forest, a workout or meditation. But not everyone has found their method or quiet spot yet. Where are the quiet places in our society? Where can you turn to if you do not have access to a forest or a soundproof pod with body temperate water?

Andrum has been designed to satisfy a need which students and personnel at LiU have; a need for a place of peace and quiet. It is a step towards a better working environment for all.

Peace, Quiet and Integrity

The idea is that anybody, anytime, can visit Andrum and spend as much time as is necessary there. You should be able to feel as though you are alone, even though there are other people in the room with you. Therefore it is important that we respect each others integrity and need for space.

Think about how your actions may be perceived by the next person to enter the room, and don’t use Andrum for activities that you could just as well do somewhere else. For instance; working, eating or sleeping are activities for which there are better suited rooms available. For security reasons, and out of respect for visitors with allergies, it is not permitted to light candles or incense, or to bring pets into the room.

Solitude

Andrum is a quiet room, but everyone does not relax by sitting perfectly still. If you want to be able to move a little without disturbing other visitors, you can choose a secluded corner where you may be alone. Feel free to listen to music, if this helps you relax, but please use tight earphones that allow you to keep your music to yourself.
