At Linköping University the main academic tradition is the Commencement Ceremony. The 2013 Commencement Ceremony takes place 16-17 May in Linköping.
On Friday 17 May, there is a doctoral conferment and professorial inauguration ceremony at Linköping University. Twelve professors are inaugurated and at the same time six honorary doctorates - of which five are international researchers - and 56 doctorates are conferred.
In conjunction with the ceremony all honorary doctors will give lectures.
The honorary doctors of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Professors Rosi Braidotti and Jörg M Winterberg, will give lectures in the HumSam-library on Campus Valla on Thursday 16 May at 10 am and 2 pm respectively. Professor Rosi Braidotti is an internationally renowned feminist philosopher, while Professor Jörg M Winterberg is internationally renowned both as a researcher in political science and as a leader in higher education.
The honorary doctors of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Professors Henry Etzkowitz and Charles W Tu, will give lectures in Planck, Fysikhuset-building on Campus Valla on Thursday 16 May at 3 pm. They are both working on the west coast of America. Professor Etzkowitz is a real heavyweight on the world innovation scene while Professor Tu is a leading researcher in the field of advanced semi-conductor materials.
The honorary doctor of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Joel Ernst, is a leading international tuberculosis researcher. He will give a lecture on the theme infections together with Linköping University Professors Lennart Svensson and Jorma Hinkula in Eken, entrance 65, on the University Hospital Campus on Friday 17 May at 10 am.
On Thursday evening there will be a University Gala Concert at Konsert & Kongress in Linköping with violinist Malin Broman and world famous cellist Jakob Koranyi playing with Linköping University Symphony Orchestra.
