Postcolonial and Postsocialist Dialogues: Intersections, Opacities, Challenges in Feminist Theorizing and Practice

Conference - Tema Genus
2015-04-27 -- 2015-04-28 The conference aims to bring together a diverse group of international scholars working in the fields of postcolonial and postsocialist gender and feminist studies in order to hold focused dialogues on the intersections of postcolonialism and postsocialism in present-day complex geopolitical climate. We investigate multiple resonances as well as dissonances between the two critical discourses and carve out spaces for potentially untranslatable experiences in order to enrich critical approaches to present geopolitical configurations. The conference builds on the newly emerging research and on-going collaborations, while at the same time seeking to expand innovative theoretical approaches to gender, race and sexuality in the specific context of recent political and cultural formations in post-Cold War and postcolonial era and currently re-emerging and re-shaping neo-colonial and imperial conflicts. With this conference, we want to open up possibilities for joint struggles and alliances in the forms of various social and political practices and theorizings against domination and global coloniality.
