Political Science programmes get high marks
The Political Science programmes at Linköping University have been rated “high quality” in the latest evaluation by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education.
The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education (Högskoleverket) evaluates the quality of the country’s higher education programmes on a continuous basis. Today’s verdict concerned programmes in Political Science as well as Peace and Conflict Studies, Development Studies, Pharmaceutics and BSc in Pharmacy.
For LiU, it is the Political Science programmes that were scrutinised this time. Both the Bachelor’s and the Master’s programmes received the verdict “high quality”. Bo Hellgren, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences explains:
"This is yet another positive evaluation that strengthens the image of the high level of the faculty’s study programmes. Still, we had a bit of bad luck too. My assessment is that we were very close to getting top marks at the second-cycle level in Political Science."
"Another observation is that in several cases, higher education institutions that received the “very high quality” rating were also rated of “inadequate quality” for other Political Science programmes." he continues.
He also takes the opportunity to express his gratitude towards his colleagues at the Department of Political Science and the staff at the faculty office.
While LiU does well in Political Science, things look bleaker for the country as a whole. According to the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education, almost a third of study programmes in Political Science are not up to scratch. Things look even worse in Pharmaceutics, related areas and BSc in Pharmacy, where half of the study programmes do not achieve the minimum required quality.
