Research award to Petter Krus
The connection between research results and practical usefulness was an important factor when LiU professor Petter Krus was awarded this year’s Åke Svensson research award at a ceremony during Aerospace Forum Sweden 2012.
This is the second year that former Saab CEO Svensson’s award has been given, and the justification underlines the contact between Saab and Petter Krus, who is a professor of Fluid and Mechatronic Systems at the Department of Management and Engineering at Linköping University (LiU)):
“Krus has worked with Saab for many years and his fields of research – aircraft and vehicle design, aerodynamics and aircraft systems – go straight to Saab’s heart. It is very gratifying that our group’s research is recognised in this way. I would also like to express my gratitude for the excellent collaboration we have had with Saab over a long period of time. It has been very important for the development of research and education outside the field of aviation too,” Krus says.
“I think that it is gratifying to see that Swedish research often leads the way when it comes to major international projects and collaborations between the business sector and academia. Krus is a fine representative of outstanding research that combines high academic quality with usefulness to the industry, with results including safer and more fuel-efficient aircraft. It is quite appropriate that the scholarship is awarded during Aerospace Forum; this confirms Linköping’s position as Sweden’s aviation capital,” says Åke Svensson in comment.
The scholarship, with a prize of SEK 50,000, was established by Saab in connection with Svensson’s farewell ceremony. It will be awarded in his name for five years. The scholarship is to reward a researcher at Linköping University’s Institute of Technology in the fields of civil safety, aviation and defence, and is used to create greater impact for the results achieved. Researchers who manage to spread their results beyond their academic field are prioritised.
