Marie Curie

The European Commission has within the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) an activity called Marie Curie Early Stage Research Training Sites with the aim to improve the possibilities for graduate students to have a period (3-36 months) of their training in another country. The doctoral programme Forum Scientium and the centre of excellence S-SENCE have jointly the responsibility for the Forum Scientium Sensing Science Early Stage Research Training Centre or Sensing Forum.

More information on the Early Stage Research Training programmes within FP6 can be found here.

More information on the People programmes within FP7 (from 2007-2013) can be found here (including funding for post-doc and much more).

All positions will be announced at Sensing Forum, and at the Marie Curie funding opportunities search tool.

The rules for eligibility can be found here.

Sensing Forum at Linköping University, Sweden, is primarily built on two existing organizations, Forum Scientium that is a multidisciplinary graduate school within Life Science Technologies and Biomedicine with an emphasis on Sensing Science, and S-SENCE that is a Swedish Centre of Excellence in Bio- and Chemical Sensor Science and Technology. The research in the early stage training programme is chosen to allow a multidisciplinary approach to scientific questions within the sensing science area. The main research area concerns multisensorsystems, e.g. electronic noses and electronic tongues. In these, signals from sensors with different sensitivities are combined to a response pattern specific for e.g. an odour. Biosensors based on synthetic peptides, as well as DNA and protein arrays using molecular electronics are examples of research projects well aimed for the students participating in the proposed programme. The work includes both exploratory projects as well as application driven projects with industry. In all areas, there are ongoing high-level research, which will secure that a fellow choosing to work in any of these areas, will be given excellent supervision and support. All students in the training programme will take part in the regular activities of the graduate school in which altogether 127 PhD-students have so far been admitted. It has also hosted so far eight students participating in the FP5 Marie Curie Training Site 2000-2004. In the beginning of 2008, there are around 70 PhD-students in the graduate school. All activities are done using the English language. Examples are monthly meetings, study visits to interesting companies, seminars, trainees at other laboratories, summer conferences, and common PhD-courses.

Fellows that had their training (altogether 72 person-months) at the FP5 (2000-2004) centre are:
