Research profiles
Research and doctoral training at LiU is conducted in the arts, social, educational and natural sciences, mathematics, engineering and computer science, medicine and public health, and in broad problem areas, or themes.
LiU has a longstanding tradition of collaboration across disciplinary and faculty borders and a substantial part of research is concentrated around a number of strategic areas of scientific and societal relevance.
Research at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences ranges from disciplinary to interdisciplinary. within broad research areas or themes, incorporating knowledge from several traditional disciplines. Among themes explored: Child Studies, Technology and Social Change, Water and Environmental Studies, Gender and Ethnic Studies.
Research at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences
Research environments at the Faculty of Educational Sciences include disciplinary studies in pedagogics and interdisciplinary research into four fields:Adult learning, Pedagogic Practices, Adult Education and Popular Adult Education, and Didactics of Technology and Natural Science. LiU hosts Sweden’s only chair in Adult Education research.
Research at the Faculty of Educational Sciences
R&D at the Institute of Technology spans from basic engineering science, mathematics and computer science to applied research. From the inception, the Institute has concentrated on evolving technologies such as bioengineering, materials science, industrial engineering and management, and information and communication technology. Most of the research is done through cross–disciplinary cooperation, in parallel with strong disciplinary research.
Research at the Faculty of Health Sciences ranges from basic biomedical and experimental clinical research to applied clinical studies and research within the fields of nursing, physiotherapy, speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, medical pedagogy, and public health.
