Cancer Genetics
Certain forms of cancer, for example breast and intestinal cancer, have been linked to a specific gene, the so-called familial cancers. An early breakthrough in cancer genetics was the discovery of the breast cancer gene, BCRA 1. Over time, cancer genetics has developed towards a broader approach where an individual’s genetic profile is linked to treatment responses and prognosis.
New advances give better opportunities for identifying people with a high risk for cancer and for discovering tumours at an early stage.
At LiU, genetic research in colon cancer, breast cancer, and lymphoma is in progress.
