Developing IT systems implies changing and improving organizations. The research environment's local profile is design and evaluation of IT in organizational contexts. It is important to study how IT development interacts with other types of organizational changes. The research is conducted in collaboration with both private companies and public organizations on governmental and municipality levels.

Our research in recent years has mainly focused on IT and organizational development in the public sector, including studies of electronic government and public e-services. Our researchers are interested in, among other things, policy and practice in e-government, change processes and user influence, IT as infrastructure for inter-organizational collaboration, IT and communications in organizational processes, IT systems' usability and impact on users.

The research adheres greatly to empirical methods and is often conducted as action research projects in collaboration with practitioners. The research may be classified as interpretative, pragmatic and qualitatively oriented, aiming to contribute with practically needed and useful knowledge, including models, methods and criteria. Simultaneously, the research has a clear ambition to give theory contributions to the field.
