Child research at LiU

Child research is a broad field of research which has evolved from both interdisciplinary questions and those more discipline-oriented. Within the area of child research there are also widely different theoretical starting points with a methodological pluralism. At Linköping University there are several major research environments which are presented below.
 

Child studies have evolved as a part of Linköping University's interdisciplinary tradition. Here, children's social life and conditions are studied from a scientific perspective, focusing on both past and present, as well as emphasizing the importance of social and cultural contexts in childhood.

Children's psychological development is a central research environment at the Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning. Special focus is accorded the typical and atypical cognitive and socio-emotional development during the first 25 years of life.

Pedagogic research on children (PeDiUS) is an extensive area of the Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning. This is an area of specialization that focuses on basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Another area of specialization focuses on social interactions at school with issues such as values and ethics, bullying and gender dimensions. These areas of specialization also give topical interest to special needs education in various ways.

Research in pedagogical work at Campus Norrköping is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach with a focus on schools and education policy. Several projects relate to children in pedagogical environments.

Research on children at the Department of Social Work includes legal research on children's rights and children's perspectives.
