CV
During my undergraduate studies (in Norway and Sweden) I focused on behaviours in the broad sense (including human behaviour). The first time I conducted research on an avian model was using the fowl during my M.Sc. project at Stockholm University (Department of Zoology) in 2001. This was also when my interests in sexual selection and sperm competition began.
I continued at Stockholm University for my Ph.D. (2002-2007) on pre- and post-copulatory sexual selection, using both domestic fowl and its wild ancestor the red junglefowl as model species to study mechanisms and processes that affect the outcome of copulation, under the supervision of Tom Pizzari and Sven Jakobsson.
During my post doctoral research fellowship (2008-2010) from the Swedish Research Council (VR), I worked at the Edward Grey Institute, at the Department of Zoology, University of Oxford, I continued my work on sexual selection with Tom Pizzari. However, I now combined this with research into how variation in animal personality influences episodes of sexual selection, again with the fowl as my model system.
For my post doctoral return year to Sweden (2010-2011), I worked with Göran Arnqvist at Animal Ecology, in the Evolutionary Biology Centre (EBC), Uppsala University. During this time, I used a non-fowl model, the seed beetle (Callosobrucus maculatus), to investigate proximate mechanisms for variation in animal personality.
During my post doctoral fellowships I also began to use the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) in my research to investigate female costs of sexual conflict and cues involved in mate choice.
I currently hold an assistant professorship in the AVIAN behavioural genomics and physiology group here at Linköping University, where the main focus of my research is on causes and consequences of variation in animal personality, using my favourite model system – the fowl.
