Pre Conference for PhD-students September 22

Developing Graduate Research Capabilities

A pre-conference for graduate-students, focused on the theme “Developing Graduate Research Capabilities” will be organized on September 22 starting at 9 in the morning. The pre-conference is based on workshops lead by leading professors from different parts of the world within the area of adult learning. The aim is to create a space for graduate-students to proble-matize and discuss important issues related to the practice of doing a PhD/EdD. Subthemes will be:

• Supervision
• The art of writing
• How to publish

Participants will be asked to read some articles and prepare questions in relation to the theme prior to the conference.

As this is a workshop based pre-conference, there will be no room for paper presentations. However, we would like to encourage graduate-students to submit abstracts to the main con-ference no later than January 15, 2010 as outlined previously in this call for papers.

The pre-conference is free of charge.

Bursaries and support to participating graduate students

As a way to support graduate-student’s participation in the conference, there will be 16 bursa-ries available in the form of free accommodation during the entire conference (from Septem-ber 21 to September 26). To be able to apply, one needs to be a graduate student (e.g. PhD-student, EdD-student, master student); a member of ESREA (either individual or covered by an institutional membership) and one need to submit a paper to the main conference.

The bursary will cover accommodation costs at a youth hostel at the university campus and transportation costs from the hostel to the conference venue each day. Each room has four beds (thus you will share a room with three other participants). There will be separate rooms for females and males.
The hostel is located at a walking distance to the pre-conference venue, and there are good bus connections to the main conference venue (15 minutes bus ride).

Applications should be submitted no later than June 1, 2010. However, a first-come first-served procedure will apply.
