Postgraduate Education Programme
Doctoral Studentships
The Energy Systems Programme admits individuals holding master’s degrees in engineering, business administration or the social and behavioural sciences who are interested in being involved in research on and the development of energy systems in intimate interaction with practices in industry, the municipalities and other sectors. The postgraduate school is intended to provide a solid foundation for those seeking to make their careers in business, academia or the public sector, and the professional careers of the PhDs who have graduated from the programme are a perfect example.
The first doctoral studentships were announced in the spring of 1997, and 13 candidates were accepted for the start of the programme on 1 September. Thus far, a total of 86 candidates have been admitted, including the seventh round of admissions in 2010, when 14 doctoral candidates began the programme.
The doctoral candidates are admitted to and primarily affiliated with one of the cooperating research divisions. They are also admitted to the postgraduate school within the Energy Systems Programme. Consideration is given both to the applicant’s suitability and to whether the focus of his/her interest is a good fit for the Energy Systems Programme.
The doctoral candidates participate in interdisciplinary projects carried out in cooperation between two or more of the programme’s research divisions. The programme also offers considerable freedom and flexibility in terms of designing the projects based on the orientation and goals of the individual doctoral candidate.
