The Department of Mathematics has 120 employees. Teaching is under the auspices of the Institute of Technology, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Educational Sciences. Background
The students will be a member in a group that develops computational methods for partial differential equations, see http://www.mai.liu.se/~janno11/CPU.htmlfor examples of our activities. Frequent contacts with leading research organizations such as NASA, Stanford and Southern Methodist University in USA, University of Cape Town and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa as well as SAAB, the Swedish Defence Research Agency and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute in Sweden will be required.
Project: Efficient methods for complex geometry and multiphysics.
The goal of the project is to develop new computational mathematics for highly accurate solutions to wave propagation and flow problems in complex geometries. Applications exist in climate modeling, aerodynamics, sound propagation and biofluid mechanics.
Duties
The duties consist of graduate studies and tutorial teaching at most 20 percent of the total work time.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a degree on advanced level with at least 60 ECTS credits in mathematics or other subjects with a strong mathematics or applied mathematics content.
Appointment procedure
When evaluating applications, the ability to conduct postgraduate studies will be considered primarily.

Period of appointment
The initial appointment is given for at most one year. It will be renewed every second year subject to successful performance of duties. The programme corresponds to four years full-time studies. Normally, the studies are combined with 20% tutorial teaching, which gives a period of employment of five years. The total period of employment cannot exceed eight years.
Start of employment: According to agreement.
Salary
The commencing salary for a graduate student is at present 24 200 SEK/month. The subsequent salary will be based on locally agreed salary increments
